i have some dillema as i am trying to find solutions for aero also.
i have made my styles having internal borde[lines, which separate each part] but microsoft aero has not [it has external designed borders only] so the preview pane area has no borders with the main white window area, i can add borders but then i will have 2 pixels border for my styles and 1 for aero. a solution needed---> except if i make version only for my styles or a separate one for aero, anyway all those need alot of time.

yes it is really a preview thumbnailpane to the top!!
which in clude also folderband so via ALT + P we appear/dissapear both = flexibility.

specially to this modification the main problem was this:
parameters of the preview pane existed to shell32.dll but also to shellstyle.dll of the current visual style we use. so when we changed parameters in shell32.dll the code should be made in a mode that bypass visual style's shellstyle.dll. and ofcourse i have to explorer new and old parameters to 'rebuild' preview pane.
about the details pane now.

as also i have written i have also made some other more experimental shell32.dll styles [not finished yet] having details pane to the right, though i 'think' that the initial bottom place that we originally have for the details pane is a better place for the details pane.
perchaps i could give an upload of this last, though its very experimental, as also the code reffered to file preview [to that] of details pane [for now] affects to the preview pane. so this last its not ready , and also text of the file description it aappear to the top of the right of details pane.

i have tried to give best flexibility in windows 7 system.
the view is this: the top and the bottom horizontal axis is bigger than the vertical ones in a window, so when you want a big preview space of a file,image, text etc its better to do it in horizontal axis.
(i have also made some more experimental styles [not finished yet] having details pane to the right, though i 'think' that details pane to the initial bottom place we have a better preview of the details pane.)
now about cover flow, when we selrct many folders in preview pane , then all goes all together to one position, just the first is slight a little top left at the center of the pane, the second is less topright and so on. i have tried to experiment with some parameters but i failed to this section, i suppose that or i used wrong parameters or parameters must be add to a different section of shell32.dll or other system file, or it is haRD CODED or 'fixed it' [not changeable] in system [i mean perchaps only with additional dll / application can work], i am not sure what of those happened.
but this modification i did [preview pane at top] was very very difficult.
